2009 Shaping Up to be a Great Year!
A Note from the President
This last year was a bit of a roller coaster ride for all of us in South Bay Alliance. It was our best year yet for attendance to the mixers, to South Bay Pride, and we doubled our membership! Going into the November election, I think many of us felt confident that our friends and neighbors would not vote away our right to marry. Alas, in this historical presidential election, we saw just that! And now the end of 2008 is upon us and we have to ask what we will do now?
Although the California Supreme court may overturn Proposition 8, the battle will not be won until our neighbors see us as equally human with families that deserve equal treatment under the law. It is harder to demonize people that we know, so I want to defang the "Yes on 8's" campaign of lies and distortions by being even more open and visible in the South Bay. It may be one person at a time, one conversation at a time, but marriage equality will happen. And when it does, we can all be proud that we were part of making it happen. - Dae Elliott
"A small group of thoughtful people could change the world.
Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." - Margaret Mead
